Top Stories: National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has stated that Governors opposed to his leadership, especially Ayo Fayose of Ekiti and Nyesom Wike of Rivers, were free to leave the party.
Sheriff also said he would not collect “stolen money from the governors”, adding that PDP would never defend any Governor when the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, beams its searchlight after they leave office.
Sheriff, through his deputy, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, said the party was ready to move on without the governors who refused to join hands in rebuilding the party.
Ojougboh said he was already in the South-East, where he said the party was going to commence its nationwide mobilisation.
“We are moving on with the determination to reposition the party. We are not interested in the funding of the party from the governors.
“They are free to leave if they want to, especially Wike and Fayose”, he told Punch.
“We are also not interested in their money. The party belongs to the people, they will finance it. So, if the governors want to withhold money from the party, they are free.
“We don’t receive stolen money. They have not been funding us and we are surviving”, he added.
He said the party was already planning a nationwide campaign, adding that they were already in the South-East where he said the campaign would start.
“We are starting with Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu and Abia states, and then we will move to Cross River State. The party belongs to the people and not to governors who will want to steal people’s money,” he added.

Top Stories: Senator Buruji Kashamu has said he was “shocked” that former President Goodluck Jonathan, presided over a meeting that “disregarded” the court of appeal judgement, which upheld Ali Modu Sheriff as the authentic chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Kashamu, who is representing Ogun East, also insisted that Sheriff did not disrespect Jonathan,
by walking out of the stakeholders’ meeting that held on Thursday.
He explained that Sheriff was only angry, because he was not recognized as PDP chairman.
“I am honestly shocked and surprised that the former president could preside over a meeting where the judgment of the court of appeal was being disregarded as irrelevant,” Kashamu said.
“This cannot be the face of a party that is desirous of seeking a break with the past.
“Going by the accounts of what I have heard happened at the meeting, I think it was a needless gathering that has reopened healing wounds and further exacerbated the crisis. How could you gather over 400 people for a reconciliation meeting and expect any meaningful deliberations?
“I say this because any PDP meeting that fails to recognise what our laws and the courts have said about the leadership crisis is on a wrong footing and premise, and it will breed more chaos and confusion such as we have seen.
“Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is the national chairman of the PDP as of today based on the court of appeal judgment and everybody is bound to abide by that whether we like it or not. You cannot call a shareholders or board of directors meeting and say the chairman of the board cannot participate or preside over the meeting.
“Would the governors have allowed it if they got to the meeting and they were not so recognised? Or were they not addressed as governors even when their elections were being challenged in court?
“Worse still, some persons said Senator Sheriff must not be recognised as such even when an appellate court has established that Senator Sheriff is the national chairman of the party”, he said.

Top Stories: Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Friday expressed optimism that the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja would be opened on April 19.
He gave this assurance while fielding questions from newsmen during his tour of the airport.
DAILY POST reports that the federal government had last week closed the NAIA for six weeks, to repair its runway, and diverted the airport’s operations to the Kaduna airport.
Osinbajo said, “I have looked round and I think that what I’ve seen and also from the information from the contractors, from the consultants, things are going very well.
“We are told that we are nearing completion and we are clearly on schedule and we expect to see that this will be completed well on schedule. I don’t think we should expect any delays whatsoever.
“We have assurances from the consultants that we are clearly on schedule, so by the 19th of this month, a new runway should be settled.”
Asked if he has any reservations about the ongoing works, the VP said, “I have no reservations. I think that by just looking at all of this myself, inspecting it and listening to the consultants, listening to the contractors, listening to the personnel from FAAN and the Ministry of Transport, I think that a lot of work has gone in here.
“The contractors are doing 24 hour shifts, working round the clock. I think they have taken the job very seriously and we expect to see that this will be done and completed by the 19th as they have promised.”
Osinbajo added that the contractors were going to do some works at the terminal building in respect of upgrading it to standard.
He added, “FAAN has said it is already starting to do something,…they say they have started to do some work.”
